The Whole of The Moon 🌖

Life can break us down. Living, real living, is actually the squiggliest of lines. ➿➿➿ And recovery can seem impossible. It’s funny how things come into our lives at just the right time. I recently started reading Glennon Doyle’s Untamed. 📖 “The truest, most beautiful life never promises to be an easy one. We need to let go of the lie that it’s supposed to be.”

On the weekend, I was with loved ones. One spoke of a time when just managing seemed insurmountable. He started counting: today is one more day I have managed. Now, it’s two days. Three. Four. And so on. 🗓 We never know when life will hit us with a hard one. Rarely is there rhyme or reason. 👊🏽 And we go through periods of both lightness and heaviness. Looking back, we can say “I survived. I recovered. I persevered.” 🤔 But in the moment, in the struggle, in the hardship, it’s anything but easy.☝🏽

No matter what though, it grows us.

Think about the moon. 🌖 The full moon, the whole of the moon. As I live, I learn. Every day. And I am constantly trying to see that whole. The “big picture”. When we stumble, our stumble is but one part. One piece, of life. Just like a crescent moon, it is one part of the whole. 🌙 When we see the crescent, it just means that is all that is visible. But it’s always part of something larger.☝🏽

Night after night, no matter where we are, it’s out there. Somewhere. A crescent or whole, it’s out there. 🌗 Sometimes, we forget. We’re worn down, beaten, scraping ourselves up off the floor, but in that night sky there is a moon.

We get bogged down in so much. 😞 We feel lonely. We rush around. Our partner doesn’t understand us. Our parents are totally out of it. The kids talk back. Or don’t study. Or game too much. Or we want kids. Or crave love. We need to stop smoking. Drinking. Eat better. Start exercising. Go to bed earlier. Communicate better. Insert needs and wants here: ________. This pandemic is scary. 😷 We are sad. Or someone we love is sad. But somewhere out there, is the whole of the moon. Sometimes we see it, sometimes we don’t. Sometimes loved ones see it, sometimes they don’t:

“I had flashes

But you saw the plan

I wandered out in the world for years

While you just stayed in your room

I saw the crescent

You saw the whole of the moon…”

We feel a lot. Pain, loss, recovery, more loss. Now, COVID-19. We seek balance, recover from trauma, look for understanding, relearn how to love ourselves. We have lost people, and have lost loves.💔 Still, we learn, grow, change. Maybe we trust, that there is a plan. That whatever is happening will not break us.

And more often than not, we -- or someone we love -- may need a little help getting there. Discovering that big picture the universe is creating for us. That whole of the moon. 💫

PS: Check out the flash mob from The Affair finale. Beautiful.
