The Summer I Turned Pretty

“Girls aren't supposed to know if we’re pretty or not. We’re supposed to wait for other people to tell us, before we’re allowed to feel it about ourselves. But isn’t that bullshit? Because we’re all beautiful. In our own ways…”

Long after that summer glow has set in, and lovely, long days are de rigeur, we turn to entertainment to accompany that little bit of extra energy we feel. 😊

Enter coming of age series The Summer I Turned Pretty 📺 — @primevideo @thesummeriturnedpretty — based off of the novel written by author Jenny Han. What at first appears to be a typical teen romance, quickly moves to a story about more than just kids on the beach. 🏖

As the story progresses, somehow you find yourself growing to love every character, and before you know it, you’re actually caring about such things as a debutante ball! 😳

And while every moment is not light and beachy, this series is a perfect reminder of young love, and mistakes made along the way, as we grow and as we age.

What it explores is how important it is to keep those around you close, and how the right relationships should and can, empower you. 🙏🏽

We know that heartache is a fact of life, yet the romanticism of a sweet summer setting makes it all the more palatable. ☀️

Lola Tung as the lead, is accompanied by fantastic supporting characters who equally bring the magic. 💫

Relationships, friendships, and choices. The silly choices we make as teens, the measured (and not so) ones we make as adults. And the love we seek out in so many different ways, is what we are left exploring. ❤️
