The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo 📖

Our household was hit with COVID this holiday season. 😷

New Years Eve, still in isolation, at least we had Johnny. Dressed up, nowhere to go, at least we had Johnny. 🌟 🐾

I spent much of the evening reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. My sisters, daughter, and a few close friends are all reading it. An attempt to try and stay connected to one another – our own virtual ‘book club’. 📚💻

Every night, we went to sleep wondering about Evelyn, and the many lives she lived. Sometimes a good book can creep right into the soul, unleashing very pleasant surprises. 👀

We stumble through life, taking risks, shooting in the dark, often coming up empty. ⛽️ We try ever so hard to protect our precious hearts from pain. And in protecting those we love, we do anything and everything we can. Along the journey we sometimes suffer loss. Great loss. 😔

But we get back up, and press on. As we must. 💯

In reading Evelyn’s beautiful story, and that of Monique, the journalist interviewing her, there is so much to learn. Most of it is about love. ❤️

Great love leaves you reeling. Maybe it’s being so sick with COVID, but at times like this, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed thinking about the many great loves that life gives us. Best friends, sisters, brothers, parents, children, partners, even our pets.🐾 And when we think of our own great loves – past, present (and future) – we are left with so many emotions that it stuns the heart. 😳

“When you dig just the tiniest beneath the surface, everyone’s love life is original and interesting and nuanced and defies an easy definition.

And maybe one day [we’ll] find someone [we] love the way Evelyn [did]...Knowing to look for it, knowing there are different types of great loves out there, is enough for me for now.” 🙏🏽
