Sweet Magnolias

After several years of staying put, we dipped our toe into the world of travel once again. Five glorious days, gal-paling it in Las Vegas. And glorious they were. Despite masks, long line ups, and a little bit of airport anxiety, things went fairly smooth. 🙏🏽

One of the things we did while relaxing at @venetianvegas was binge watch Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias. Simple bonding. With something equally simple, yet complicated, funny and entertaining, that also teaches us so much. Regardless of who you are – a person looking for faith, a middle child, a divorced dad, a reckless teenager – many of us can relate to what goes on in the sweet town of Serenity.

More than just a sit-com, the characters, both primary and secondary, are real. Flawed yes, but finding strength in their pain and turmoil. And it is inspiring to see life’s problems – divorce, miscarriage, raising teens, falling in (and out of) love –  being dealt with in ways that make one think and learn. And allow us to judge our own selves just a little less.

Gone is the predictability of most in this feel good genre. We all know that life is not easy. And here are characters who come into situations that any of us could. Seeing first-hand how they deal with life – looking for ‘therapy’ in the most unexpected of ways – they show us how leaning on others, as difficult as it is, is a must.

We watch television for entertainment, sure. But as we watch, when we can learn and relate how beautiful is that? 😊
