Someone, Someday...

As parents, it’s the hardest job we have. 😳

Ethan Hawke, recently on The View, tells us “…the job of young people is to…tell the truth of their life in the time period they’re growing up in…and it makes their parents uncomfortable. That is their job…it’s our job to listen and respond accordingly.”

Still, no matter how much advice we get (or give), there is no roadmap from one family to the next. ⚠️

We are doing our best — and what a dangerous game we play when we judge. Maybe it subconsciously makes us feel better, feel superior. We think we know everything we would or wouldn’t do…insert scenario here. But when said situation arises in our own lives, we are left with sleepless nights, stressful conversations, and a boatload of worry. 👀

We question the effects of our actions. Sometimes, we feel like we’ve failed. We haven’t. We learn, we try, we grow. The path of watching our kids become adults is long, and complicated.

And there are moments of pride and love so overwhelming, it can knock us over. ❤️

In Showtime’s The Affair, a father trying to repair the relationship with his daughter, gives us much to ponder:

“Being a parent is hard, and I know we haven’t done it perfectly but, I learned from my parents’ mistakes, and your mother learned from hers, just as you’ll learn from our mistakes and be better with your children…until someone, someday, many years from now, finally has a perfect childhood.”

All we can do is continue trying our very best, from one moment of life to the next.

So let’s help each other. Kindness, compassion, and open hearts can take us much, much further, can’t they? 💕
