In The Still Of The Night…

Three hours had gone by. And we were still sitting on the plane. ✈️ Having just been told another half hour until take off. We convinced ourselves it was a good idea to travel from Toronto to Banff, this past long weekend. 👀 And as if the Gods had other ideas, our city was hit with an ice storm that night. ❄️ So after much delay, we were still on the tarmac. Swept with some anxiety, I had already made the decision that if the flight was postponed until the next morning, I would sit this one out and stay home with Johnny – we had left him with family for the weekend. 😳

Many of us have gotten used to just staying put. Staying home. 🏠

Being surrounded by hundreds of people, on an overbooked flight, stuck on a plane for hours, it was a lot. 👀

And I missed my dog. 🐾 🐕‍🦺

Well, we did end up going. Around midnight. Overwhelming at times, being in an airport, getting on a plane, staying in a hotel, eating in restaurants, hugging family. As entitled as it is, traveling has just not been an option these past two years. 🛑😷

And while I say it was a lot, at the same time it was amazing. Able to get away for a few days, but staying within the country, we felt very grateful. 🙏🏽

We don’t know what is coming around the corner at any given time. Loss of life, sickness, unemployment – it’s all there. How many zoom funerals have we seen these last two years? 😞 Children in school (masked or learning online) who are now behind. Refugees seeking world-wide safe haven from the Taliban. And now air raid sirens, as airports are taken over and Ukraine is under siege. 😢

Stop. Look. Take in what is around you. And grab onto any and every moment of peace, calm, and happy that you can. It is fleeting and finite. And what may have never seemed real before – air raid sirens in the night, people dying alone – certainly is now. ☝🏽

Whatever your bright light is – an amazing meal, binging Inventing Anna, snuggling with your love (pet or human) – grab it. Cherish it. 🤗

For it is all temporary.
