How well have are we handling “life”?

How well have are we handling “life”?  👀

I am reminded of an incident when we went to @cineplexmovies –  Jake Gyllenhall’s Ambulance. 🎬 A group of about 10 teens snuck in near the end. Seated directly behind us, they proceeded to talk. Loudly. My husband asked them a few times to keep it down, to no avail. 👿

Frustrated, I went for help. In the halls, not a single employee. Even up front, the box office was closed. The front door ticket collector said she would send someone. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We all walk around with baggage, and even post pandemic mental health suffers. Teens particularly, have been cooped up for too long. 😞

And I know this. ☝🏽

But that Sunday, I forgot it all. Much to my regret, as I walked back from the front, those same teens were now in the hallway, and quite rowdy. Annoyed, I told them to leave. They got mad back. We exchanged words. Keep in mind, I was alone and there were 10 of them. 😳 And still, no staff around. One of the girls whipped her iced tea bottle at me, and then charged my way. Alarmed, I retreated inside the theater. Her friends must have stopped her for she did not come in after me. 😱

Shaken, after the film we spoke to the manager about the obvious need for more employee visibility/security. As a teacher and mom of teens, I do not fault those kids. These are their years to make mistakes. 💯

But I was disappointed in myself. We know to avoid vulnerable situations. The unpredictable behavior of others must prompt self-preservation. Just rewatch Unhinged. 👀

Anyone can unload at any given moment. And I, know better.

And when unchecked trauma is often the driving force in the behavior of others, the results can be catastrophic. Just last summer, on a subway platform in Toronto, with no warning a woman was pushed onto the tracks by a stranger. Now people stand with backs against the walls while waiting for the next train. 🚇

The explosive baggage we carry 🧳 -- sometimes from those we know. And also, from those we don’t. ☝🏽

Be smart, be mindful, and take care – surrounding yourself with those who lift you up.  💫

We are all struggling a little bit. 💙
