Growing Wings 🦋

In tight knit families, there is love and there is friendship. And loss makes us hold on tight. ❤️ We are 6 siblings now, and we are all over the place. Schooling and work has taken some of us to far away lands many times over. 🌎 But in the last several years, we have all been in the same city together. And for all in this pandemic, if we are lucky enough to be near family, it keeps us sane. 🙏🏽 Those apart from loved ones know how hard it is. 😞

One of our sisters is relocating this week to Vancouver -- propelled by a spirit of restlessness, a desire for change, and that adventurous mood of youth. ⛰ Greener pastures and mountainous beauty await.

At her age, I too relocated to the Yukon for a teaching job in Whitehorse. Impossible as it seemed, I don’t regret it for a minute. While I did come back after a few years, to get married and accept a job offer here, movement is good for the soul. 💫 Still, seeing our sister leave is oh, so difficult. We all have people in our lives with that knack for always knowing what to say. Who are wise in their outlook and uber competent in executing it. And can mentor, with interest and affection, our children. 🙏🏽 All the while, showing us what’s in fashion AND where to get it! 👖💄 What a gem such individuals are! 🌟

In life we take chances. Calculated rolling of the dice. 🎲 We look at younger people today and we are assured. Their resourcefulness and technological know-how are astounding. Their commitment to growth and desire for more are an inspiration. Strapped to their laptops, while we may not understand all the nuances of this new way of living -- truly outside of the box -- they certainly do. Able to start businesses from home, setting up side gigs from a screen, they truly make this huge existence, so much more personal. Lemonade out of lemons. 🍋

It gives us hope. Hope for them, hope for ourselves. 🙏🏽

The best job we do as parents, or older siblings, is help them grow wings. And when they use them, it is truly a thing of heartbreaking beauty. 🦋
